Anne Deguelle: Sigmund’s carpet
An exhibition of Anne Deguelle’s works (“work in progress”) was held at the library from November 5th to February 26th, 2011, taking as their starting-point the carpet adorning Freud’s couch and Freud’s collection of carpets as a whole. These works were displayed at the end of 2011 at the Freud Museum in London.
In the window display cabinet copies of plates from the portfolio were displayed.
Made up of “composite” works, they present a series of 10 images assembled in pairs and consisting of montages based on photographs of Freud’s qashqa’i, asmalik et heriz carpets. Into these were inserted fragments of paintings by Holbein, Ghirlandaio and Tournier. All this was accompanied by plates in various notes. Also displayed in the window display cabinets, were documents attesting to research into the presumed origin of Freud’s collection of carpets. Objects specific to weaving: shuttles, coils and carpets were also on display.
Video
Présentée sur moniteur, la vidéo « to sleep, to dream, no more » accompagnera cet ensemble.
This was accompanied by the video “to sleep, to dream, no more”, presented on screen. The video was developed from film of the qashqa’i carpet and its motifs into which images of sleepers in black and white were inserted, evoking the intertwining of the weaving of dreams and that of immemorial images.
