Abstract: |
This article focuses on the perception of the role of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in West Germany after 1945 from the perspective of professionals in psychiatry. It analyses which contexts were remembered as significant for the health policy recognition of the psychoanalytic instrument. Based on biographical interviews with actors in psychiatry, the perception of the professional establishment, of influential actors and the role of media discourse are reconstructed. The focus is on the thought collective of reform-oriented psychiatry inGermany in the run- up to the Psychiatry-Enquete.
The evaluation of interviews with actors in psychiatry makes clear which professional processes were perceived from their perspective and reflected in narratives. It becomes apparent that reform-oriented representatives of psychiatry will remember the inclusion of analytical and depth psychological psychotherapy in the catalogue of benefits of the health insurance funds as very formative. As a further result of this study, it can be stated that above all persons present in the media are perceived and the influence of other formative personalities (such as Dührssen, Schwidder, Haarstrick) is remembered less. Also, important stages in the professional establishment of psychotherapeutic treatment practice and research (introduction of the additional title of ›psychotherapy‹ for physicians (1967), inclusion of ›depth psychology-based and analytical psychotherapy‹ in the health insurance scheme (1967), ›psychosomatics and psychotherapy‹ as an academic discipline (1970).) have hardly been taken into account. In summary, it can be stated that the communicative memory of psychiatry (memories of influential representatives of the discipline) differs from the cultural memory of psychotherapy (literature on the history of the discipline). |
